Solutions and Dissolving
When a solute such as salt dissolves in a solvent like water, it makes a solution, and the solid can be got back by evaporation. Students name the key terms, decide whether salt, sand, sugar and chalk dissolve in water, and explain what speeds up dissolving, why filtering cannot remove salt, and how to separate salty, sandy water.
