Sound Waves and Echoes
Sound is made by vibrations and needs particles to travel, moving fastest in solids and not at all through a vacuum. Students link amplitude to loudness and frequency to pitch, decide whether surfaces like brick, curtains and carpet reflect or absorb sound, and use 330 m/s to work out the distance to a wall from an echo. Explain questions include why space is silent.
