Credits, games and friends

Where credits come from, what unlocks a game, and how to play against somebody you know.

How credits are earned

Credits are the reward for doing the work, and the only thing that opens a game.

  • 5 credits for any quiz you score 50% or better on.
  • A signing-up bonus that depends on the plan: 10 on the trial, 15 on monthly, 25 on yearly, 50 on premium.
  • 12 credits when a friend you invited subscribes. See below.

Your balance and every line of the ledger are on the credits page in your dashboard. Credits never expire.

How a game unlocks

There are 33 games, matched to three class bands so a Class 2 child and a Class 10 student do not get the same thing. How many are open to you depends on your balance:

Games come in two sections, quiz games and interactive ones, and the count below applies to each section:

  • 1 to 10 credits: the first game in each section.
  • 11 to 25: the first two.
  • 26 to 50: the first three.
  • 51 and over: every game in your band.

7 games are free and never lock, whatever your balance. The daily games are open to everyone too.

Playing a game

Open the games hub and pick one. Winning costs nothing. Losing a round costs 5 credits, which is what stops a game being an endless retry and keeps the quizzes worth doing.

A parent can limit all of this: games on or off, which hours of which days they are allowed, and a daily cap in minutes, all behind a PIN in parental controls. Credits carry over, so a cap postpones a game rather than taking it away.

Playing against a friend

Go to Duels and pick one of the ten games. Invite your opponent by their QuizByt email address; they need an account already, and nothing is sent to an address that has not signed up. An invitation expires after fifteen minutes.

Games are turn-based, so you do not both have to be online. Play a move now, they answer when they can, and you get a nudge when it is your turn again. Every game is open to every class.

Playing against another person needs a subscription. On the free tier and the trial you can play Sequence and Chess against QuizByt itself, once each.

Inviting a friend to join

Your dashboard has a Refer a friend page with a link that belongs to you. Send it to whoever you like.

  • When somebody who used your link subscribes to a paid plan, 12 credits are set aside for you.
  • They are not added automatically. Open the Refer a friend page and press Redeem, and they go onto your balance.
  • We email you when a reward is waiting.
