First words for ages 3 to 6

Your child hears a short word like cat, dog or sun, sees a picture of it, and builds it from letter tiles. Each word is spelled out loud, so the sounds and the letters arrive together.

They are short, everyday three-letter words, the kind most children learn to read first. Once one is built, ask your child to find something else that starts with the same sound.
