How it begins
DNA is the molecule carrying genetic information, coiled into chromosomes in the nucleus. Humans have 23 pairs: 46 in total. A gene is a section of DNA coding for one characteristic. Different versions of the same gene are alleles. Dominant allele (capital letter), shows even if only one copy is present. Recessive allele (small letter), shows only when both copies are recessive. Genotype: the alleles present.
