What this lesson covers

Automated & Emerging Technologies is a 7-part O Level Computer Science lesson. Each part makes one point and then hands over to the next, so it can be read in a sitting or picked up again at the part you stopped on. It defines the idea in plain words before using it, works through an example step by step, breaks the topic into its parts and compares them, names the mistakes that cost marks in an exam, ends with a recap of what to remember.

How it begins

Every automated system in this syllabus has the same three parts, and the answer to almost every question is a walk around the loop. Sensors measure a physical quantity and input it, temperature, pressure, light, humidity, moisture, infrared, motion, pH, ultrasonic proximity. A microprocessor compares each reading with a stored preset value and decides what to do.

The 7 parts

  1. The three parts of every automated system
  2. The closed loop, written out in full
  3. Robotics and artificial intelligence
  4. Extended reality, and worked scenarios
  5. Where marks go
  6. What to remember
  7. Watch one worked through
