How it begins
Current is the rate of flow of charge: I = Q/t, amperes, and Q in coulombs. Conventional current flows from + to −; electrons go the other way. Current is measured with an ammeter in series, and it is not used up around a circuit. Voltage (p.d.) is energy transferred per unit charge: V = E/Q, volts, measured with a voltmeter in parallel across the component. E.m.f.
