Kinematics: Motion & Forces
How things move, and why they only change how they move when something pushes.
What this lesson covers
Kinematics: Motion & Forces is a 8-part Class 9 Physics lesson. Each part makes one point and then hands over to the next, so it can be read in a sitting or picked up again at the part you stopped on. It defines the idea in plain words before using it, works through an example step by step, breaks the topic into its parts and compares them, shows where it is used outside the textbook, names the mistakes that cost marks in an exam, ends with a recap of what to remember.
How it begins
Kinematics describes motion without asking what causes it. Four quantities do the whole job. Distance (m, scalar), the path length travelled. Displacement (m, vector), straight-line distance and direction from start to finish. Speed (m/s, scalar), distance ÷ time. Velocity (m/s, vector), displacement ÷ time. Acceleration is the rate of change of velocity, in m/s².
The 8 parts
- Describing motion
- Reading motion graphs
- The equations of motion
- A full worked problem
- Stopping distances and safety
- Where marks get lost
- What to remember
- Watch one worked through
