Figures of Speech
Figures of speech make writing more vivid: a simile compares using 'like' or 'as', while a metaphor says one thing is another. Children circle the similes in a list, complete sentences explaining similes and metaphors, and match personification, alliteration, hyperbole and the other terms to their meanings. Scored out of 15.
