Nuclear Physics: Practice
Unstable nuclei decay at random, giving out alpha particles, beta particles or gamma rays, and half-life is the time taken for half the undecayed nuclei in a sample to decay. Isotopes, ionising and penetrating power and background sources are recalled first, then balanced decay equations are written for radon-222 and carbon-14, with background subtracted before half-life is read.
