Vertebrates and Invertebrates
Animals can be sorted with one question: does it have a backbone? Vertebrates do, and invertebrates such as snails, spiders and butterflies do not. Pupils sort six animals, answer questions about the vertebrate groups and an insect's hard outer covering, then explain trickier cases like why a crab with a hard shell is still an invertebrate.
