Introduction to Percentages

Per cent means 'out of 100', so 50% is a half, 25% a quarter and 10% a tenth. Students write percentages as fractions, work out amounts like 25% of 40 and 10% of 250, and solve short problems on a test score of 18 out of 20 and a Rs 80 shirt with 50% off.
