Food Webs and Energy Transfer

Energy enters a food chain from the Sun and only about 10% passes on at each step, which is why chains are short. Using the chain grass, grasshopper, frog, snake, hawk, students identify producers and consumers and count trophic levels. They also name decomposers, correct a wrongly drawn arrow and predict what happens when a lake is sprayed to kill insects.
