Gaseous Exchange & Respiration

What this lesson covers

Gaseous Exchange & Respiration is a 8-part Class 10 Biology lesson. Each part makes one point and then hands over to the next, so it can be read in a sitting or picked up again at the part you stopped on. It defines the idea in plain words before using it, works through an example step by step, breaks the topic into its parts and compares them, shows where it is used outside the textbook, names the mistakes that cost marks in an exam, ends with a recap of what to remember.

How it begins

These are two different things and confusing them is the most common error in the topic. Breathing (ventilation): the physical movement of air in and out of the lungs. Gaseous exchange: oxygen and carbon dioxide diffusing between the alveoli and the blood. Respiration: the chemical release of energy from glucose, inside every cell. Breathing supplies the oxygen; respiration uses it.

The 8 parts

1. Breathing is not respiration
2. The alveolus
3. How breathing works
4. Comparing inhaled and exhaled air
5. Smoking and air quality
6. Where marks get lost
7. What to remember
8. Watch one worked through
