Circles: Chords, Arcs & Tangents
The circle theorems, and writing a geometric reason that earns the mark.
What this lesson covers
Circles: Chords, Arcs & Tangents is a 11-part Class 10 Mathematics lesson. Each part makes one point and then hands over to the next, so it can be read in a sitting or picked up again at the part you stopped on. It defines the idea in plain words before using it, works through an example step by step, breaks the topic into its parts and compares them, shows where it is used outside the textbook, names the mistakes that cost marks in an exam, ends with a recap of what to remember.
How it begins
Radius: centre to circumference. Diameter: twice the radius. Chord: a line joining two points on the circumference. A diameter is the longest chord. Arc: part of the circumference. Minor (shorter) and major (longer). Sector: a "slice", bounded by two radii and an arc. Segment: bounded by a chord and an arc. Tangent: a line touching the circle at exactly one point. Sector and segment are frequently confused.
