Rocks & Soil
What the ground is made of, and how rock slowly becomes soil.
What this lesson covers
Rocks & Soil is a 8-part Class 4 Science lesson. Each part makes one point and then hands over to the next, so it can be read in a sitting or picked up again at the part you stopped on. It defines the idea in plain words before using it, works through an example step by step, breaks the topic into its parts and compares them, shows where it is used outside the textbook, names the mistakes that cost marks in an exam, ends with a recap of what to remember.
How it begins
A rock is a natural solid material making up the Earth's surface. Rocks differ in hardness, colour, and whether water soaks through them. Those differences decide what each is used for, which is why we build with some and carve with others. Rocks are grouped by how they formed.
The 8 parts
- Rocks are not all the same
- Three kinds of rock
- How soil is made
- Testing a soil
- Why soil matters
- Where it usually goes wrong
