Data Transmission: Practice
Data crosses a network in packets made of a header, a payload and a trailer, and errors picked up along the way are caught by parity, checksums and echo checks. Serial and parallel links, simplex to full-duplex, ARQ and symmetric versus asymmetric encryption are recalled, after which even-parity bytes are checked for errors and out-of-order packets are explained.
