Credits Decide Which Game Opens Next: The Unlock Ladder Explained

One credit opens the first game in each section. Eleven opens the second. Fifty-one opens everything. The exact numbers, where credits come from, and why the ladder is in that order.

The short version

  • Credits come from quizzes: score 50% or better and credits are earned. There is no other way in, which is the point.
  • The ladder is fixed and published: 1โ€“10 credits open one game per section, 11โ€“25 open two, 26โ€“50 open three, 51 or more open every game in the band.
  • Games unlock in a set order within each section, so the first one opened is the one designed to be met first.
  • Beating the top level of any game pays 10 bonus credits, once per game, the only credits that come from a game rather than a quiz.

A reward system that a child cannot see through is not a reward system, it is a slot machine. So the ladder that opens games on QuizByt is fixed, published, and short enough to remember.

Where credits come from

One place: quizzes. Score 50% or more on any quiz and credits are earned, with the amount shown on the result page. There is no daily-login bonus, no purchase, no watching an advert. Credits mean "you passed a quiz", and a child's balance is a plain record of that.

There is one exception, and it is kept small: beating the fifth and top level of any game pays 10 bonus credits, once per game. It rewards persistence at the thing the game was teaching, and it cannot be farmed.

The credit ladder: 1 to 10, 11 to 25, 26 to 50 and 51 or more, and the two ways credits are earned.
The credit ladder: 1 to 10, 11 to 25, 26 to 50 and 51 or more, and the two ways credits are earned.

The ladder

A child's band has sections, the interactive games and the quiz games. Within each section, games open in a fixed order as the balance rises:

  • 1 to 10 credits: the first game in each section opens.
  • 11 to 25 credits: the first two.
  • 26 to 50 credits: the first three.
  • 51 or more: every game in the band.

A locked game says exactly what it needs: "Reach 11 credits to unlock". No mystery, and no way to misread it.

Why in that order

The order within a section is not alphabetical. The first game to open is the one designed to be met first, in primary, Word Builder before Tower of Hanoi; in senior, Equation Solver before Knight's Tour. So the ladder is also a curriculum: a child who has just started earning credits meets the gentlest game in the band, and the demanding ones arrive when there is a record of passed quizzes behind them.

Why the balance, not a lifetime total

Credits are a balance, and playing a round of an unlocked game spends some. That is the part that makes the system honest: a child who stops passing quizzes will eventually stop being able to play, and the way back is a quiz. The games are not a prize awarded once and kept; they are the ongoing reason to keep doing the work. There is good reason to think this shape matters, the testing effect is one of the most replicated findings in learning research, and anything that makes a child take one more quiz is doing the thing that works.

What never needs credits

Each band's free games, and the three daily games, are open at zero. A child never faces a page of padlocks with nothing to do; they face a page with something to play and a clear reason to earn the rest. Which games those are is in how QuizByt picks games by age.

๐Ÿ’ก For a parent watching the balance: a child at 26 credits has passed a fair number of quizzes. If the balance is not moving, the question is not "why no games". It is which subject the quizzes stopped in, and the dashboard shows that.

Questions parents ask

How does a child earn credits?

By scoring 50% or more on a quiz. Each pass earns credits; the amount is shown on the result page.

How many credits open all the games?

51. Below that, 1โ€“10 credits open one game in each section of the child's band, 11โ€“25 open two, 26โ€“50 open three.

Can credits be bought?

No. They are earned from quizzes, and once per game from beating its top level. That is deliberate: the games are the reward for the work, not a purchase.

Do the free games need credits?

No. Each band has free games and there are three daily games open to everyone, so a child with zero credits still has something to play.
