What this lesson covers

Solutions, Acids, Bases & Salts is a 9-part Class 10 Chemistry lesson. Each part makes one point and then hands over to the next, so it can be read in a sitting or picked up again at the part you stopped on. It defines the idea in plain words before using it, works through an example step by step, breaks the topic into its parts and compares them, shows where it is used outside the textbook, names the mistakes that cost marks in an exam, ends with a recap of what to remember.

How it begins

A solution is a mixture where one substance is spread evenly through another and will not settle out. Solute: what dissolves (salt). Solvent: what does the dissolving (water). Solution: the two combined (salt water). A saturated solution holds as much solute as it can at that temperature. Heat it and it usually holds more, which is why sugar dissolves faster and more fully in hot tea.

The 9 parts

  1. Solutions first
  2. Acids and bases
  3. Neutralisation and salts
